Men's Dress Shirts Perfect Your Attire in the Office

Men in the office often have to wear formally. Dress shirts are the apparel that every man should have. Not all men are good at picking dress shirts. They don’t know how formal should they need. Discover what styles of dress shirts suit the situation is crucial in choosing proper dress shirts.

Dress shirts can be for formal wear or for business wear, and both the details, colors and fit vary with the situation. Learn which factors affect how formal your dress shirts selection really is, and whether they fit the situation. When selecting men’s dress shirts, the color, collar and material will be of primary importance in deciding how suitable it is for a particular use, however details such as cuffs, sleeve and fit also influence if the dress shirts are right for the occasion.

Material is the first selection made and it will determine the life of the dress shirts. The material also has a bearing on how suitable for its purpose the dress shirts will appear. Business wear dress shirts are less structured today and colored men's dress shirts are beginning to be seen in all but the most traditional corporate climates. However, traditionally blue or white cotton or linen is used with these dress shirts, and in many companies is still standard. Black tie dress shirts are often white shirts but starch is optional.

The collar of dress shirts is the most easily visible detail on the shirts and an important detail at that as the type of collar is a good indicator of just how formal shirts appear. Detachable collars are usually the most formal, though not as frequently used by Americans who favor attached collars. Detachable collars may attach with studs (usually matched to the cufflinks) and are never "button down" they are the most formal. Attached collars may still be very formal and with the exception of the button down collar may be found on some types of formal wear. The Windsor collar is popular for business wear in Europe.

Color of course is one of the first things noticed about men’s dress shirts and it is true you simply cannot go wrong with white. However, colors have begun to filter in and a blue dress shirt with white cuffs is permissible in many business situations. If it is for black tie or formal wear then sticking to white unless you are sure of the situation is a good rule.

Fit is also an important detail in styling in dress shirts. The formal shirts will extend past the thighs and nearly to the knees but they also may be found in slim, regular and roomy fits. Formal dress shirts can be more closely fitted to the body shape than ones for business purposes are fitted. Men’s dress shirts worn in business may be slim, regular or roomy but the slim fit may give a less formal appearance and so for situations where the businessperson wants to make the best impression such as a job interview, regular cut may be best. The details influence how well any dress shirts selection fits the situation and your purpose. Together they can make a statement in any situation.
